Jonathan Helwig, LMSW, is a Licensed Master Social Worker who approaches therapy from various treatment modalities, including Psychoanalysis, Systems Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Strengths-Based Perspective. Jonathan believes therapeutic goals should be collaborative and self-determined by the client. He aims to empower his clients to feel confident sitting in the “driver seat” of their own lives.

Jonathan graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a dual Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Theatre. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Clinical Work at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. As an undergraduate, Jonathan interned at the Office of Child Welfare Services in Montgomery County, and at the Safe Shores Children’s Advocacy Center in Washington, D.C. While pursuing his Master’s Degree he worked at Safe Journey House, a 24-hour crisis center helping high-risk individuals with severe mental health and various other issues. He also worked at Potomac Programs’ Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) where he helped teens face substance use issues applying the Seven Challenges modality. In their Partial Hospitalization Program, Jonathan applied DBT in his work with young adults with personality disorders and suicidality.
