ABOUT Dr. O’Shan Gadsden

Dr. Gadsden welcomes adolescents, adults, couples, and families into a compassionate space where they can speak openly and feel understood. He helps clients explore recurring patterns, work through painful experiences, and build more fulfilling relationships with themselves and others.

His style is thoughtful, collaborative, and attentive to each person’s story. He welcomes clients across identities and backgrounds, with particular expertise in Black men’s mental health, masculinity, and the emotional impact of racism and cultural expectations.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Dr. Gadsden brings more than 20 years of experience across psychotherapy, assessment, supervision, training, and consultation. His background spans community mental health, university counseling, inpatient psychiatric care, forensic settings, and private practice.

He has held faculty and leadership positions at Hampton University, Howard University, and New York University. An author and speaker, he explores how culture, identity, and relationships shape healing. His book, Psychology Through Our Eyes, reflects his commitment to culturally inclusive psychology.

CLINICAL FOCUS

Dr. Gadsden supports clients navigating trauma, attachment concerns, identity, intimacy, relationship difficulties, and challenges expressing emotions. He helps clients understand how earlier experiences influence current patterns so they can feel more connected, express their needs, and respond differently to familiar challenges.

His relational psychoanalytic approach values the therapeutic relationship as a place to build trust, deepen understanding, and practice greater openness. He considers culture, family history, and social context while helping clients connect insight with everyday life.

For clients who wish to explore them, spirituality, purpose, and meaning can also have a place in therapy. Dr. Gadsden welcomes people of all faiths and those with no religious or spiritual affiliation.
