Kayla Evelyn-Cunningham, MA, LPA, is a compassionate and dedicated clinician who believes in the power of self-confidence, self-motivation, and self-compassion. She understands that life’s challenges can feel overwhelming, but she strives to help individuals develop the tools they need to navigate their circumstances with resilience and clarity. Kayla welcomes individuals of all ages and backgrounds, creating a supportive and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, valued, and empowered.

As a doctoral intern and licensed psychological associate in Washington, D.C., and Maryland, Kayla has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and couples in both individual and group settings. She specializes in cognitive and psychological assessments, helping clients gain a better understanding of their strengths and challenges. Whether conducting intellectual evaluations for educational planning or behavioral assessments for diagnostic clarity, she ensures that each client receives personalized recommendations to support their growth and well-being.

In addition to assessment, Kayla provides therapy to individuals facing challenges related to trauma, anxiety, depression, substance use, and life transitions. She integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness-based techniques to help clients manage stress, improve emotional regulation, and regain a sense of balance. Her warm and collaborative approach encourages clients to reframe negative thought patterns and build a stronger sense of self.

Kayla’s experience extends beyond traditional therapy settings. She has worked in school systems, community-based programs, substance use treatment facilities, and correctional institutions, giving her a deep understanding of how different environments impact mental health. She has also served as a crisis supervisor and mobile crisis counselor, providing real-time interventions to individuals in acute distress.

Kayla believes that while she may not be able to change every situation, she can help clients shift their perspectives, develop self-compassion, and take meaningful steps toward positive change. She is committed to fostering a warm, accepting environment where clients of all ages and backgrounds feel supported in their journey toward mental wellness.
